The Department of Journalism and Media Arts was established in 1998. A great contribution to the development of the department was made by the State Prize laureate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akhseleu Seidimbek.
The head of the department is PhD Shurentaev Amangeldy Meiramuly.
The department trains specialists:
correspondents for newspapers and magazines;
specialists in news agencies;
literary media workers;
editors of the media;
technical editors of periodicals;
advertising agents;
book managers.
The Department of Philosophy at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University has been part of the Faculty of Social Sciences since the university was founded. In 1996, the Faculty of Social Sciences was established, after which the specialisations of ‘political science’, “sociology” and ‘religious studies’ were separated from the department . The department is headed by Symbat Yerkebayevich Shakirov , PhD in Philosophy. Currently, the Department of Philosophy carries out educational, scientific and research activities in the field of philosophy and cultural studies

- Educational Programs: Specialist training is conducted at three levels: Bachelor's (6B02201), Master's, and PhD (8D02201).
- Scientific Work: A Dissertation Council for the defense of doctoral dissertations in philosophy operates based at the department.
- International Cooperation: The department actively collaborates with foreign universities through academic mobility programs and joint research initiatives
The Department of Sociology trains specialists in the educational programmes ‘Sociology’ and ‘Social Work’.
The educational programme ‘Sociology’ is aimed at training competitive personnel, meeting the needs of the modern labour market at the national and international levels, with skills in analytical, managerial, expert, research and educational activities.
The educational programme ‘Social Work’ is aimed at training competitive, highly qualified personnel with knowledge in the field of supervision, case management in social work, taking into account European educational standards and modern requirements of the labour market, as well as capable of carrying out practical activities and conducting scientific research.
The Department of Religious Studies of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, established in 2012, is a unique scientific and educational center engaged in the study and analysis of religious phenomena in a historical and modern context. Since its foundation, the department has been actively developing, offering educational programs at all three levels of higher education: bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees.

In 2023, the department accepted students for the first time to the new interdisciplinary program "Psychology of Religion", developed jointly with the Department of Psychology, which was a significant step in the development of the department and the provision of unique educational opportunities.
